Magellanic Clouds above ALMA
Looking toward the south, our galactic neighbors, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are visible above the antennas of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). Located on the Chajnantor plateau in Chile at altitude of 5000 meters, ALMA is known as the most complex ground-based astronomical project of this decade. It will eventually consist of 66 radio telescopes operating together as a single giant telescope.
