This coronal (frontal) CT image through the orbits shows pathologic thickening of the medial rectus muscles, with the associated remodelling of the medial walls of both orbits. This person has Grave's disease ( or toxic thyroid goiter). One of the manifestations of this illness is thickening of the extra-ocular muscles within the orbits. In addition one may also find an increased volume of orbital fat and proptosis (bulging eyes). This is called thyroid ophthalamopathy.
