Northern snapping turtle (Elseya dentata). This freshwater turtle occurs widely across northern Australia from the Kimberly in the west, through the Northern Territory. It grows to a length of around 35 cms. It lives in large rivers and deep lagoons. Its diet is primarily herbivorous, consisting of various water plants and fallen fruit from overhanging trees.
