Illustration depicting Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834), French general, liberating America from British rule. Lafayette first joined the American colonists in 1777 aged just 19. He commanded American troops in several battles and played an important role in the Siege of Yorktown, the last major land battle in the American Revolutionary War. Illustration published in 1866.
