Torso
Description:
Back pain. Multiple-exposure abstract image of the side view of a woman's torso, depicting back pain (lumbago). The site of pain is highlighted in pink. Pain in the lower back is very common. It is usually caused by strain which injures soft tissues (muscles, tendons or ligaments) around the bones of the spine. People most likely to suffer from back pain are those whose work involves heavy lifting, or those who spend long periods sitting in one position. Pregnant women commonly suffer from back pain towards late pregnancy. Treatment includes rest, correct posture and painkilling drugs. Persistent pain may indicate a more serious underlying disorder, such as slipped disc.
