Technician carrying out DNA sequencing
Description:
DNA research. Male technician in clean room clothing studying a sequence of bands of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). The DNA is in an electrophoresis gel used to separate the fragmented DNA into bands. DNA is the molecule found in all cells which contains the genetic hereditary material. Here, the rows of sequenced DNA form irregularly spaced bands which are fluorescing pink under ultraviolet light. The bands represent the positioning of the four base pairs in the DNA molecule which make up each person's unique genetic code in the form of genes. This sequencing is being carried out as part of cancer research.
