Tasmanian devil
Description:
Tasmanian devil. Young male tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii). This marsupial is named after the island it inhabits, although fossil records show it was once widespread throughout the whole of Australia. The tasmanian devil resembles a small bear and can weigh up to 9 kilograms. Its young are weaned at eight months, having spent their first three months in the mother's pouch with 2 to 3 siblings. It is nocturnal and usually solitary, only congregating at food sources. Its reputation as a savage creature is unfounded, as it takes most of its prey in the form of carrion. Photographed on the island of Tasmania, Australia.
