Soap bubble landscape
Description:
Soap bubble landscape: the pattern of colours on the bubbles results from light interference which occcurs through reflection in the thin films of the soap bubbles. When the thickness of the film is comparable to wavelength of the incident white light, light waves reflected from back of film may be out of phase with light reaching the front; the result is an interference pattern. Colour arises from certain wavelengths comprising white light being extinguished in a region of the bubble where the thickness of the film produces interference effects.
