The Snake River is a major tributary of the Columbia River in the U.S. states of Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The river is 1,040 miles long, flowing from its source in Yellowstone National Park through mountain ranges, canyons, and plains. Its drainage basin includes a diversity of landscapes. Here, it flows through the Columbia River Plateau after leaving Hells Canyon. The Snake is the largest tributary of the Columbia River, and has the 12th largest flow among U.S. rivers.
