Simon Cox, head of the GEODISE collaboration
Description:
Professor Simon Cox, head of the GEODISE project. GEODISE (Grid Enabled Optimization and Design Search for Engineering) is a project that aims to allow designers access to the power of a network of supercomputers through their desktop computers. Some engineering problems, for example measuring air or water flow around a new vehicle design, require far more power than a single computer can provide. GEODISE offers a portal to supercomputers that have the processing power required to solve such problems. GEODISE is a collaboration between the Universities of Oxford and Manchester, and Southampton, where Cox is Professor of Computational Methods. Photographed in 2003.
