Sex-linked trait
Description:
Drosophila melanogaster eye color variations. The mutation that leads to white eye color in Drosophila is found on the X chromosome - thus it is a sex-linked or X-linked trait. A study of this trait in fruit flies by T.H. Morgan in the early 1900's helped to identify the role of chromosomes in heredity. The red eyed flies are wild type (non mutant)
