Parallel processing
Description:
Parallel processing: macrophotograph of an array of individual rectangular INMOS transputers, microprocessor chips that contain all the essential components of a traditional computer system. The term "transputer" is a hybrid of transistor and computer. A single transputer houses a central processing unit (CPU), random access memory (RAM) and four serial links, through these links, each transputer can be linked to four others, allowing the construction of arrays in two or three dimensions. The use of multiple CPU's operating at the same time, with the great advantage of increased speed of operation, is known as parallel processing.
