North Cascades National Park, Washington
Description:
View of mountains in North Cascades National Park from State Route 20 in Washington State. The North Cascades are a section of the Cascade Range of western North America. They are predominantly non-volcanic, but include 3 stratovolcanoes that are part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc. The region is notable for dramatic scenery and challenging mountaineering, both resulting from their steep, rugged topography. While all of the peaks (except 3 volcanoes) are under 10,000 feet (3,000 m) in elevation, the low valleys provide great local relief, often over 6,000 feet (1,800 m). Dubbed the North Cascades Highway, State Route 20 is the longest highway in Washington, and has been called "The Most Beautiful Mountain Highway in the State."
