Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of human nerve cells showing axons and dendrites. From the Greek dendron, or tree, dendrites are bush like projections sprouting from a nerve's center, or cell body. Dendrites bring information from outside sources such as other neurons or sensory cells to the neuron's cell body. As the dendrites transmit information towards the cell body, a longer projection called the axon will carry information away from the cell body to other neurons.
