Mosaic restoration
Description:
Mosaic restoration. Archaeologist using a microjet and scalpel to restore a mosaic found in the medieval abbey of Saint-Bertin, France. Restoration of mosaics is mostly limited to cleaning and reinforcing the remaining parts, so that the image is visible. Some small pieces of colored stones are replaced, but most of the damage caused over time is left to preserve the archaeological record. This work is being done at the Interdepartmental Workshop restoration of mosaics and wall paintings of Saint-Romain-en-Gal, France.
