Martian canyons, Coprates Catena
Description:
Martian canyons. Mars Express view of collapsed canyon-like structures on Mars, part of a system called Coprates Catena. This area is next to the main valley of Coprates Chasma (not seen), part of the Valles Marineris canyon system on the Martian equator. These collapsed structures vary in depth from 2500 and 3000 meters. The area in the image is about 70 kilometers across. North is at left. Data from the High Resolution Stereo Camera. Mars Express has been orbiting Mars since December 2003.
