Leclanche prototype of modern torch battery
Description:
This prototype of the modern torch battery became a popular portable electricity-maker after Leclanche (1838-1882) invented it in the 1860s. The cell utilized a zinc rod as one electrode, a carbon rod inside a manganese dioxide and carbon granules pot as the other electrode and a solution of ammonium chloride.
