Intestinal tuberculosis
Description:
Intestinal tuberculosis. Gross specimen of a piece of an intestine in intestinal tuberculosis. This is an uncommon manifestation of tuberculosis, and is difficult to diagnose. The symptoms are similar to that of Crohn's disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases. The wall of the intestine becomes thickened and inflamed and ulcerated. Treatment is with antibiotic drugs to target the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria causing the condition.
