Impetigo on woman's face, secondary to herpes S

Description: Impetigo. Close-up of crusty, honey-coloured impetigo blisters on a woman's nose and cheek. Impetigo is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection that mostly affects the area around the nose and mouth. The bacteria, usually staphylo- cocci, enter a break in the skin and cause small fluid-filled blisters to develop. These burst, producing moist weeping areas surrounded by a honey-coloured crust where the fluid has dried. Antibiotics and gentle washing clear up the problem in about five days. This patient's impetigo was triggered by herpes simplex, a conta- gious viral infection of the skin.
