Description: Hydroelectric power station on the shores of Loch Rannoch, Scotland. Water is fed to the power station from Loch Ericht (not seen) by a series of tunnels and pipes (upper left). As the water descends to the lower building, it turns hydraulic turbines, which rotate a generator to produce electricity. The water exits into Loch Rannoch. This power station has been operating since 1930. Electricity generated by hydroelectric power stations is relatively cheap and has limited environmental impact.
