Helena Hill, American Suffragette
Description:
Hill serving 3 day sentence in Occoquan Workhouse. Helena Hill (August 15, 1875 - April 20, 1958) was an American suffragist and member of the National Women's Party. She was among the American suffragists who picketed the White House. On July 4, 1917, she became one of the first women to be arrested. She was arrested again in January 1918 for applauding in court. In August of that year she was arrested for participating in the pro-suffrage Lafayette Square meeting. Hill was also one of America's first female geologists and was a founding member of the Women’s National Press Club. Records of the National Woman's Party, 1917 (cropped and cleaned).
