First Degree Burn
Description:
An illustration of a section of skin with a first degree burn. First degree burns only affect the superficial layer of skin, known as the epidermis, and has a dry red appearance. Sunburns are the most common cause of first degree burns and can be painful for the first two or three days. These burns typically heal quickly (between 1-2 weeks), but may increase a patient's risk for skin cancer later in life.
