Facial reconstruction
Description:
Facial reconstruction. Image 4 of 7. Forensic scientist using a modelling tool to reconstruct the muscles of a face from clay. The clay is placed over a plaster cast of a skull requiring identification. Pegs placed in the cast correspond to the depth of the facial muscles. These provide a guide to the scientist when building up the muscle layers with modelling clay. The aim is to provide a likeness of the victim, which might allow them to be identified from missing persons records for example. See images H200/279 to H200/285 for a sequence of facial reconstruction.
