Description: Earthworm (Lumbricus terrestris), colored scanning electron micrograph. This is an annelid worm that inhabits soils, feeding on organic materials. Its segmented body is clearly seen here. The movement of earthworms through a soil greatly improves its aeration. As well as this, their feeding and excretion helps to recycle minerals and nutrients. Magnification unknown.
