Composite of GeoSphere earths with blue halos
Description:
Series of satellite pictures of the whole earth as it revolves from east to west. Each of the pictures is a composite created from thousands of separate images recorded by NOAA'S Tiros-N series of meteorological satellites. Each Tiros image was selected to show the characteristics of a region. The chosen images were compiled into a database using a graphics supercomputer which then generated this composite. The picture is one of the results of the GeoSphere Project, created by Tom Van Sant in Santa Monica, California. The blue halo was added by photographic techniques.
