Description: Dental fillings and a crown. Coloured dental X-ray of a child's molar teeth with fillings and a stainless steel crown. At upper right is a tooth whose crown has been artificially replaced with a stainless steel crown (white). The molar tooth below it and one to its left have each received an amalgam filling (white). A dental crown and fillings are necessary when a tooth has become chipped, broken or eroded due to dental decay. At lower right is a healthy premolar tooth. Each tooth has an inner pulp which contains blood vessels and nerves. Failure to treat a broken or decayed tooth may result in infection reaching the pulp cavity, causing the tooth to die.
