Description:
Amphipods are crustaceans that are related to shrimp and crabs. Lacking pigment and eyes, these amphipods inhabit cave waters and sometimes surface springs. This is a species in the genus Stygobromus and it is an obligate groundwater inhabitant. These species typically have no eyes and little pigment. This individual was photographed in Oklahoma's Ozarks in 2014.
