Artwork of the liver, gall bladder and pancreas
Description:
Liver and pancreas. Artwork of the liver, gall bladder, bile duct, duodenum and pancreas. The liver (pink) consists of numerous lobules. A magnified liver lobule is shown within the circle surrounded by branches of the hepatic artery (red) and the hepatic vein (blue). The sac below the lobule is the gall bladder (green). Bile produced by the liver is stored in the gall bladder. The bile passes from the gall bladder down the bile duct (thin, yellow tube) to the duodenum (green, lower frame) where it emulsifies fats in food. The pancreas (brown, elongated) is a gland that produces hormones and digestive enzymes.
