Description: Anti-malaria drug. Hand holding a vial containing an extract of the anti-malarial drug cryptolepine. This bitter liquid is derived from the roots of the Cryptolepis sanguinolenta plant, which is native to West Africa. Here it has been used in traditional medicine where it is known as the Ghana quinine. Crytolepine is now being investigated by pharmaceutical companies for its anti-malaria properties. This research has also shown that it is also capable of eliminating cancer cells that are resistant to synthetic anti- cancer agents.
