Professor Raymond Davis Jr (born 1914), American chemist and astronomer who has conducted a series of famous experiments located in the Homestake Gold Mine, South Dakota, to detect neutrinos from the Sun. (The experiment found fewer neutrinos than predicted by theories about how the Sun burns). The photograph was taken in 1984 at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Long Island, where Davis works.
