1748 engraving of a chimpanzee
Description:
Chimpanzee. 1748 engraving of a chimpanzee. This individual was brought to Paris from Angola in 1738. It was only 21 months old and 71cm tall. One hundred and fifty years before Darwin, dissected chimpanzees were considered as "man" by physicians who found their internal structure to be almost identical to that of humans.
