These 'acoustic headbands' were used to aid those with difficulties in hearing. Each cornet acts as a sound collector: sound waves enter the wide end of the cornet and become amplified as they pass along the narrow channel of the tube and into the earpiece. The headband fits over the head and the tip of each earpiece fits into the ear canals of the wearer's ears. The amplification of the sound makes it easier to hear. These are made from celluloid and date from around 1910, England.Credit:SPL / Science SourceSize:5196px × 3364px (~50 MB)Restrictions:No Sale through SubagentsGet PricingHow Will The Visual Be Used?ShareKeywords:1900s-1910-1910s-20th century-acoustic-acoustic headband-acoustic headbands-acoustics-aid-aids-amplification-amplifies-amplify-antique-antiques-audiology-auditory-C019/8140-C0198140-celluloid-cornet-cornets-deafness-device-ear-ears-england-english-faux tortoiseshell-hear-hearing-hearing aid-hearing aids-history-medical-medical instrument collection-medicine-mustard background-partial deafness-sound-sound collector-sound collectors-tan backgroundModel release:N/AParent folder:SPL FTP 140328-29
