Deformed ankle after fracture. Colored profile X-ray of the left ankle of a male patient, showing an old fracture that healed incorrectly. The ankle is the joint where the lower leg bones, the tibia (shin bone) and fibula (behind the tibia, not clearly seen), articulate with the bones of the foot (lower center). There is extra bone growth around the fracture scar (lower left) in the tibia, which has caused the fibula to bow outwards (not clearly seen). It is important that a bone is correctly aligned if it is to heal properly and avoid future complications. See M330/1673 for a frontal image of this condition.
