This severe injury usually results in death, but occasionally subjects do survive. The distraction and widening of the distance between the skull base and upper cervical spine is indicated by the short white arrow. The short double white arrows indicate disruption of the anterior longitudinal ligament and the long white arrows indicate disruption of the ligamentum flavum, interspinous and supraspinous ligaments and the posterior atlanto-occipital membrane.Credit:Living Art Enterprises / Science SourceSize:4200px × 5178px (~62 MB)Get PricingHow Will The Visual Be Used?ShareKeywords:atlanto-occipital-atlanto-occipital membrane-base of skull-cervical-cervical spine-craniocervical-craniocervical dissociation-diagnostic-dissociation-fracture-fractured-imaging-injured-injury-interspinous-ligament-ligamentous-ligamentum flavum-magnetic resonance-magnetic resonance image-magnetic resonance imaging-membrane-mr-mri-mvc injury-neck-neck fracture-neck injury-severe-severe spinal cord injury-severe spinal injury-skull-skull base-spinal-spinal cord-spinal cord stretching-spinal injury-spinal ligamentous injury-supraspinous-trauma-traumatic-upper neck-vertebral columnModel release:N/AParent folder:16864
