Orbitals contain an atom's electrons, which are found around the central atomic nucleus (not seen). Each orbital can hold two electrons. This 4d orbital is a different shape to the other four, which have four symmetrical lobes (see clips K002 8693-8695). An atomic orbital is a mathematical model of the location of an electron around an atomic nucleus. Electrons do not orbit the nucleus as might be imagined, but instead exist as a standing wave around it. The phases of the wave are arbitrarily colored red (negative) and blue (positive).Credit:animate4.com/ SPL / Science SourceSize:1920px × 1080px (~166 MB)Restrictions:No Sale through SubagentsGet PricingHow Will The Visual Be Used?ShareKeywords:4d-4dz-4dz2-animated-animation-atom-atomic-atoms-chemistry-configuration-cutaway-d orbital-demonstration-education-electron-electrons-four-lobed-lobed-lobes-model-modeling-models-orbital-orbitals-phases-physical-physics-probability-quantum mechanics-quantum theory-shape-shell-shells-structure-wave function-wavesDuration:16sParent folder:20131109_spl003_hd1
